OUR PURPOSE

The purpose and goal of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Chaplain Program is to provide a core group of professional, ordained, (Chaplains) or vowed men and women in religious communities, from a variety of faiths, who volunteer their time and talents to the Deputies and citizens of Douglas County, as Chaplains. A law enforcement Chaplain is certainly a challenging role to fill as all Chaplains are clergy, however, all clergy often times cannot fill the role of a Chaplain. A Chaplain is indeed a special person. By definition a Chaplain is “A vowed man or woman of faith specially trained to minister through counsel, comfort and acts of kindness in a non-traditional setting to those affected by tragedy, disaster, or trauma.”

The Chaplain Program concept is not exclusive to Douglas County. In fact, Police Chaplain programs are numerous around the United States and serve in a variety of functions for local, County, State and Federal Agencies.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is very grateful for the service that the Sheriff’s Chaplains provide and the level of commitment demonstrated.

SERVICES

The law enforcement chaplain will seek to lighten the burden of the Deputies by performing tasks that have a greater spiritual or social nature rather than of a law enforcement nature. The Chaplain Program strives to strike a balance between serving the needs of the Deputies in their personal and professional lives and serving the citizens of Douglas County at large through a variety of services.
